A1 picture-matching and A3 mini-interviews — 20 points of pattern recognition
Two of three Hören tasks run on recognizable patterns: A1 matches five texts to six pictures (one decoy), A3 plays five short interviews around ONE question with a small answer matrix. Both are about anticipating the picture/answer vocabulary BEFORE the audio starts.
THE RULES — AND WHERE THE EXAM TESTS THEM
In A1, name each picture in your head first
„Küche, Wald, Arzt, Telefon, Gleis“
EXAM:You get 30 seconds before the texts — label all six pictures, then listen for the setting noun.
The setting word usually comes FIRST
„Stell den Salat auf den Tisch…“ → kitchen, immediately
EXAM:öSD A1 texts open with the scene; the tail is often a decoy detail.
One picture is the decoy — it matches NOTHING
Six pictures, five texts
EXAM:If two texts seem to match one picture, one of them belongs elsewhere — check the second half of both texts.
A3: read the matrix options before the interviews
Sport / Familie / ausruhen
EXAM:You get 10 seconds only — but the SAME three options apply to all five speakers.
A3 speakers confirm their answer TWICE
„Ich liebe Afrika … Afrika ist für mich ein Traum“
EXAM:The Modellsatz interviews repeat the key word near the end — that's your safe confirmation.
A3 distractor = the speaker mentions the OTHER option to reject it
„Asien ist schön, ABER Europa gefällt mir besser“
EXAM:The word after aber/sonst is the answer — the word before it is the trap.
MINI-DRILL — COVER THE ANSWERS FIRST
Picture: bank machine + card. Text opens: „Ich brauche 200 Euro…“. Match?
Yes — money/automat is the setting; the tail (Geschenk) is decoration.
Interview: „Asien war schön, aber Afrika ist mein Traum.“ Answer?
Afrika — the clause after aber wins.
Two texts both mention cooking. One matches the kitchen picture. How do you decide?
The decoy usually cooks for a JOB (Koch) or rejects cooking — listen for role vs. activity.
A3 matrix: you missed interview 3 entirely. What now?
Guess after elimination — it can't be the answer of 1, 2, 4, 5 unless speakers repeat options (they can — options repeat across speakers).
THE TRAPS — WHERE POINTS DIE
- !Matching on the FIRST word you recognize — decoy texts open with a scene word too. Wait for the second sentence.
- !In A3, one cross per line: two crosses = 0 points for that speaker (official rule).
- !Leaving the notepad/pictures BLANK on pass one because you wait for „perfect“ understanding — rough answers now, fix on pass two.
