Au pair is the youth road — and for Ukrainians it works differently from any other third country for one reason: visa-free travel. That fact genuinely changes the process (parts of it can run inside Germany), but it does NOT change the requirements: A1 German, the age window, the host-family rules and the 12-month maximum are identical to the worldwide missions' au-pair frame. The Russian-language internet around it is the usual mix — agencies quoting conflicting age bands (18–26 vs 18–27) and pocket money (€280 vs €350) — so this page pins the official frame and then states what the Ukraine-specific openings actually are.

What visa-free travel actually changes for Ukrainians
- Entry is easy; the status is not. Ukrainians can enter Germany visa-free — but working as an au pair requires the proper residence permit first. Arriving as a tourist and starting with a family is not legal regardless of visa-free travel
- The §24 overlap: Ukrainians already in Germany on temporary protection can, with a matched family and the A1 certificate, pursue the switch to the au pair permit at the local Ausländerbehörde — a route applicants from visa-required countries must run at a consulate abroad. The year and what it leads to
The program's value is the same as anywhere: ~30 hours of childcare and light housework, evenings largely free, the language course attended — and an exit at A2–B1 for participants who take the course seriously. For Ukrainians the continuation question has a specific 2026 answer: the roads out are the ones the other articles map — study (with the BAföG opening), the recognition and work road, or the citizenship-clock mathematics once a qualifying permit is reached.
