TELC A1 · START DEUTSCH 1

The VHS paper. Rehearsed end to end.

Three complete Start Deutsch 1 mock papers in the telc format — including the 45-minute Lesen + Schreiben block and the answer-sheet transfer that only the telc paper has — each with its own solution book, plus five cheat sheets on the grammar the paper grades.

BEFORE YOU BOOK THE EXAM — THE ONE NUMBER

The Start Deutsch 1 seat costs around €100–150 (centre-set; typical VHS ~€120). Fail it once — at A1, the most failed item is always the same: the format you've never sat — and the next seat costs another around €100–150 (centre-set; typical VHS ~€120).

This kit costs €9. One rehearsal sitting — 75 minutes, timed, graded — removes the format risk entirely. Nobody fails an exam on grammar they knew; they fail on the shape of the day. Sit the shape three times first.

THE CORNELSEN BOOK — AND WHAT IT DOESN'T DO.

TRADITIONAL PAPER WORKBOOK (€24–€28)

  • ×Fixed paper tests on a desk. The second attempt is from memory, not the clock.
  • ×No timing pressure. Nobody locks your page at minute 55 saying „Stift weg.“
  • ×Answers in the back appendix without examiner reasoning or distractor analysis.
  • ×Physical paper. You bought printed sheets, not a live diagnostic grading system.

GERMANIUM TIMED REHEARSAL (€9)

  • ✓Three calibrated papers — sit them under authentic exam-room conditions.
  • ✓Real countdown clock locks and submits automatically at 0:00.
  • ✓Instant grading for every Kreuz, gap, and email with full transcript evidence.
  • ✓Progress persists in your personal roadmap; track score growth between sittings.

We publish the same task types Cornelsen does — calibrated against the official Übungstest, not reverse-engineered from a preview PDF. The difference isn't the paper. It's what happens after you finish it.

THE EXAM WENT DIGITAL. YOUR PRACTICE DIDN'T.

Most TELC centres now run the written paper on screen. You'll click boxes, not hold a pencil. So why rehearse on paper?

Clicking a Kreuz on screen is a different motor skill from circling on paper — and on exam day, unfamiliarity costs exactly the seconds you'll want back. Practice where you'll perform: real choice boxes, real typed gaps against a real clock. And on a phone, on a train, at 22:40 — the book stays on the desk; this doesn't.

THE COMPLETE TELC A1 KIT

One-time payment. Permanent access. Both packs together cost less than one failed seat — and less than any single textbook that can't grade you. Your first attempt is saved the moment you submit.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK BEFORE BUYING

  • How is the telc A1 paper different from the Goethe A1 paper?

The certificate is the same Start Deutsch 1 exam, but telc runs it its own way: Hören, Lesen and Schreiben are sat in one 75-minute rhythm with Lesen and Schreiben sharing a single 45-minute block, and after the block you get ten minutes to transfer every answer onto the machine-readable Antwortbogen — that transfer is part of the exam. telc then scales your raw score (max 45) by 1,66 and grades on the result: 60 of 100 is the pass.

  • What score do I need to pass telc A1?

60 of 100 Ergebnispunkte — 36 of the 60 raw points after the × 1,66 scaling. There is no per-section minimum at A1, so a strong section can carry a weak one; but a blank on the answer sheet earns nothing, so nothing should stay blank. The official Prädikate bands (sehr gut down to teilgenommen) are printed on the result sheet.

  • What exactly is in the kit?

Three full telc A1 mock papers — Hören, Lesen, Schreiben and Sprechen in the official grid, including the shared 45-minute block and the Antwortbogen transfer — each with its own solution book and complete transcripts, plus five grammar cheat sheets placed where telc tests them. Everything is interactive and graded against the official scaling.

  • Is this an official telc paper?

No. These are Germanium's own mock papers calibrated to telc's published format — telc's Übungstest 1 is free on telc.net and worth doing. This kit is the additional rehearsal: more papers, worked reasoning on every item, and a clock that runs the transfer the way the room does.

  • Who takes telc A1?

Integration-course finishers and anyone booked at a Volkshochschule or licensed telc centre — in Germany the telc edition of Start Deutsch 1 is the default sitting. Spouse-visa candidates also sit it when their process accepts telc.
