Chancenkarte from Brazil: the full 6-point matrix, the €1,091/mo funds rule, and the A1-floor confusion killer

The Germany Opportunity Card for Brazilians: the full 2026 points table, the €1,091/mo funds rule, the A1-vs-B1 confusion, and the filing chain.

The Chancenkarte — the Opportunity Card — is Germany's points-based job-search permit: rather than needing a job offer before you move, you qualify on points, enter Germany, and have up to a year to find qualified work, with twenty hours of side work allowed weekly. For Brazilians it is the natural road after (or instead of) the Working Holiday year: it runs on your qualifications rather than your age, and Brazil's degree-heavy workforce profile (a bachelor's is the modal qualification) starts the table strong. The pt-BR internet explains the concept everywhere and prints the full matrix almost nowhere — this page prints it, and adds the calculator: check your points now, free, before you read another paragraph.

The two-entry structure — and the 6-point table

First, the structural fact the agency pages blur: the Chancenkarte has two entry doors. Door 1 — a fully RECOGNIZED qualification (your degree equivalent to a German degree, or your vocational training recognized) admits you directly, with no points needed. Door 2 — a foreign qualification that is NOT yet fully recognized — admits on points: you need 6 of a possible 16. The table:

CriterionPointsNotes for Brazilian profiles
Degree formally recognized4If your degree is already recognized as equivalent — otherwise this is 0 until you do the recognition
Vocational qualification (2+ years)4State-recognized, at least 2-year training — the ensino técnico lane
Basic German A21Floor for the points route — the card's language gate sits here, not at A1
German B12The single cheapest upgrade in the table
German B2 or higher3For nursing/care and client-facing roles this is also what employers want
English C11Relevant for Brazilian IT/tech profiles — most don't need to prove it; when it counts, the certificate does
Age under 352Under 40: 1 point; under 35: 2
Listed shortage occupation1The current list changes; IT, engineering and nursing lead it
Previous stay in Germany114+ months of residence in the last 5 years — e.g. a prior WHV year or an exchange
Spouse eligibility1When your spouse also qualifies for the Chancenkarte

The money: €1,091 a month is not a suggestion

The Chancenkarte route requires proof of funds — unless you already hold a qualifying work contract in hand — at €1,091 per month, €13,092 for the year (the 2026 frame; mission-leaflet is the binding source at build). This is the CHANCENKARTE scale, deliberately different from the student one: the €11,904 blocked account that dominates the study clusters is a different visa's number, and the two get confused in pt-BR pages constantly — the blocked-account article untangles them side by side. The proof format is the same blocked-account, a German bank's deposit guarantee, or a sponsorship document the mission accepts.

The Brazilian filing chain and the degree check

Brazilians file at a German mission in Brazil (embassy or consulates-general by region), booking through the missions' appointment system after the documents are gathered. The application's spine is your qualification — and its German reading lives in anabin (anabin.kmk.org ↗), the German authorities' own database: a Brazilian university with H+ status is recognized; H− or H+/− is case-by-case and may route through a ZAB statement (Zeugnisbewertung) first. Five minutes of anabin lookup tells you which door you're on and stops the classic Brazilian drift of assuming any diploma auto-recognizes — it does not, and agencies that skip the check are selling you paperwork, not a forecast. The 2026 Blue Card thresholds (€50,700 standard / €45,934.20 shortage) are the Chancenkarte's conversion targets: the card is the audition, the Blue Card the contract that follows.

What are the 2026 Chancenkarte points for Brazilian applicants?

Door 1 needs no points (fully recognized qualification). Door 2 needs 6 of 16: degree or recognized vocational training 4, German A2 +1 / B1 +2 / B2 +3, English C1 +1, under-40 +1 / under-35 +2, shortage occupation +1, prior 14+ months' stay in Germany +1, eligible spouse +1. Brazilian profiles most often clear the table with a bachelor (4) + B1 (2) or bachelor + shortage occupation + age points. Check yours on the free calculator before you spend on documents.

How much money do I need for the Chancenkarte from Brazil?

€1,091 per month — €13,092 for the 12-month year — unless you already hold a qualifying employment contract. The proof is a blocked account, a German deposit guarantee, or an accepted sponsorship. This is the Chancenkarte scale; the €11,904 figure belongs to the student route and mixing them up is the most common pt-BR pages error.

Does my Brazilian diploma need the ZAB statement before the Chancenkarte?

For the points route, not automaticaly: if your university is anabin H+ you can enter on points WITHOUT a formal equivalence statement — the points route explicitly accepts a foreign vocational/academic qualification as the entry credential. The formal Zeugnisbewertung (ZAB, ~€208) is what DOOR 1 needs (full recognition, 4 free points) and what employers asking for a 'recognized degree' want. Check anabin first — it's free, it's five minutes, and it decides which road you're on.

Can I use the Chancenkarte to look for jobs in Germany for a full year without returning to Brazil?

No — the Chancenkarte is a JOB-SEARCH permit, not a work permit: up to 12 months to find a qualified job (with 20 h/week side work allowed). If a qualified contract appears during the year, the conversion to a work permit or Blue Card is the natural road — the missions' pages document it. If it doesn't, the year ends and you file again from Brazil — hence the B1-first advice: come with the level that makes the transition real, not the level that just clears the gate.
