THE FINANCIAL & TIME STAKES OF ÖSD A1

You have been practicing for the wrong exam. Goethe and telc share one paper style — the ÖSD wrote its own.

Sit a Goethe mock and then the real ÖSD A1, and the room feels unfamiliar from minute one: there are no a/b/c bubbles — you write numbers, matching situations to ads, and Hören requires real-time note-taking with strict subtest floors. Avoid risking another € 150 (centre-set, e.g. Vienna) sitting.

THE 3 RULES THAT FAIL ÖSD A1 CANDIDATES

1. The Written Module Floors

„Mindestpunkte in jedem schriftlichen Teilbereich“

Below 6 points in Lesen or Hören, or below 4 in Schreiben A2, the entire module fails — even with a high total score.

2. The Notizblatt Listen-and-Write

„Aufgabe 2 — Telefonnummern zifferngenau beim Hören notieren“

Hören requires note-taking while listening. A single wrong digit on the phone number voids the 2-point item entirely.

3. Pluricentric Dialects

„Authentische Stimmen aus Wien, Graz und Basel“

The ÖSD mixes Austrian and Swiss standard pronunciation. Germanium prepares you with authentic pluricentric recordings.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK BEFORE BUYING

  • What is the öSD Zertifikat A1 and who runs it?

The ÖSD Zertifikat A1 (Grundstufe Deutsch 1) is the Austrian German A1 certificate, run by the Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch — a state-supported examination system shared by Austria, Switzerland and Germany's education ministries. It is accepted for Austrian residence and visa purposes and sits at öSD-licensed centres worldwide.

  • How is the öSD A1 paper different from Goethe or telc A1?

Task types first: öSD uses matching tasks (situations to ads by number), a Hören Notizblatt where you write the information you hear, and a banded 10-item form in Schreiben. Scoring second: the written module is 75 points (Lesen 30, Hören 30, Schreiben 15) with a pass at 38 — and per-section floors, so a very weak section can fail the module even on a passing total. Third: öSD is modular — the oral is its own module with its own certificate.

  • What exactly is in the kit?

Three full öSD A1 mock papers — matching tasks, the Notizblatt, the banded form and the oral — each with its own solution book and transcripts, plus five cheat sheets built for öSD's own formats rather than reprinted Goethe sheets. Texts are plurizentric: Vienna, Graz and Basel, like the real paper. Everything is interactive and graded against the official bands and floors.

  • Is this an official öSD paper?

No. These are Germanium's own mock papers calibrated to the öSD's published Modellsatz format. The official Modelltests are free on osd.at and worth doing; this kit is the additional rehearsal material — more papers, worked reasoning on every item, and the band tables applied to your answers automatically.

  • What score do I need to pass öSD A1?

The written module: 38 of 75 points, with floors — Lesen at least 6 of 30, Hören at least 6 of 30, and the Schreiben form band not left empty. The oral module: at least 12 of 25. Modules can be sat and repeated independently at the centre.
